Creating curb appeal with a front yard landscape & hardscape renovation in San Diego

Everybody dreams of having a beautifully designed front entry to their home, friends and neighbors come by and stare in amazement and envy.  Its a good feeling, knowing you have the best front yard in the neighborhood brings a sense of pride and everlasting joy.   The problem is many homeowners don't see the potential or have the design expertise needed to make this dream come to life.   Hiring a competent and talented designer is highly recommended.   They will be able to guide you and give you advice and ideas which you may not of thought of or realized.   The front yard is related to what we call "Curb Appeal" which is because it is where most people first see your home and is the first impression they have from the sidewalk curb.   This is why when selling a home realtors often insist on updating the curb appeal to attract buyers.    In the photo below you can see a bleak and boring front yard as it was before the front yard landscape renovation.   This home was built in th 1930's and considered a historical structure as it was one of the first homes built in this neighborhood looking over downtown San Diego.  It was never properly landscape during the last 80+ years until we got a hold of it.   See below the before and after photos.

(BEFORE) - LANDSCAPE & HARDSCAPE RENOVATION

The property had an existing steep hillside with one lower retaining wall, weeds and dead grass a covered this unattractive and primarily large unusable space.   We came up with a design plan to terrace the hillside into two levels with new masonry retaining walls, to create less of a downward slope and prevent erosion & runoff, thus creating a move level planting beds and greatly expanding usable space for the homeowner.

(AFTER) -  LANDSCAPE & HARDSCAPE RENOVATION

After the retaining wall was built we then installed new decorative colored concrete, a winding dg & stone pathway,  beautiful landscaping using a drought tolerant mixture of plants, installed a water wise automated drip irrigation system and mulch as a finishing touch.  Within a 3-6 months the plants should fill in nicely and create a park like setting for all to enjoy in the neighborhood.
